DSL: Information
Digital subscriber line
Use your current phone company to get a high speed, broadband internet connection using your existing phone lines.
DSL Defined
DSL is a high-speed way to connect to the internet, at a much lower price compared to cable.
DSL shares your current phone lines. To connect to the internet you will need a DSL modem (typically supplied by the DSL vendor) and an Ethernet card in your PC.
The DSL modem plugs into your phone line, providing an internet connection. Your standard phone service stays the same. And unlike a dial-up internet connection, you can be on your phone and use your DSL connection at the same time.
Of the two choices, DSL or cable, cable is faster, but only by a tiny bit. Most people will find DSL fast enough. And DSL is still at least 10x faster then a dial up connection.
