Download speed: This is the speed you can expect when moving files from the internet to your computer. For example, when you download an mp3 file.
Upload speed: This is the speed you can expect when sending files to the internet from your computer. Examples include sending emails with attachments, sharing files, or building web sites.
Dial-Up: The maximum speed available on a dial-up modem is 56K, and it usually will be slower then that, dropping as low as 28k.
Performance is the same for downloads and uploads.
DSL basic service, even with the basic plan is at least 13-times faster. More if your current dial-up speed drops below 56k.
